A Tennessee plastics recycler is reopening with much more capacity following a fire that shuttered its facility nearly a year ago.

Allied Reprocessing LLC of Ripley, Tenn., has resumed operations in a 100,000-square-foot location that more than doubles recycling efficiency and capacity, the company said.

“We now have the capacity to recycle 25 million pounds per year, whereas before we could only sustain approximately 10 million pounds per year,” owner Will Douglas said in a statement.

Allied, to date, has rehired seven employees. The owner hopes to add 30-50 more people during the next year.

Allied Reprocessing began operations in 2009 in Ripley, which is 40 miles from Memphis. The facility specializes in recycling chrome-plated plastics.
